Blepharoplasty in Lexington, KY

What Is A Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty, commonly referred to as eyelid surgery, is a surgical procedure designed to rejuvenate the appearance of the eyes by addressing excess skin, puffiness, and sagging of the eyelids. Drooping or hooded upper eyelids can create a tired or heavy appearance, while bags beneath the eyes may contribute to an aged or fatigued look.

Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on individual anatomy and goals. The result is a refreshed, more alert appearance that maintains natural facial expression.

Benefits Of Eyelid Surgery

Patients choose blepharoplasty for both aesthetic and functional benefits, which may include:

  • Removal of excess upper eyelid skin: Improves eyelid contour and, in some cases, peripheral vision obstructed by overhanging skin
  • Reduction of lower eyelid puffiness: Addresses under-eye bags for a more rested appearance
  • Younger, refreshed look: Softens visible signs of aging around the eyes
  • Improved confidence: Patients often feel more confident when their appearance better reflects how they feel

Types Of Blepharoplasty

Some patients benefit from both upper and lower eyelid surgery, while others may require only one procedure.

  • Upper Blepharoplasty: Removes excess skin and, when appropriate, small amounts of fat from the upper eyelids. This creates a more open, refreshed eye appearance.
  • Lower Blepharoplasty: Targets puffiness and excess fat beneath the eyes to smooth the lower eyelid contour and reduce a tired appearance.

The Blepharoplasty Procedure

  • Surgery: Blepharoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis in our fully accredited, in-office surgical suite. The procedure typically lasts between one and three hours, depending on whether upper, lower, or combined eyelid surgery is performed.
  • Recovery: Stitches are generally removed within several days at a follow-up visit. Mild swelling and bruising are expected and resolve gradually.
  • Resuming Activities: Most patients return to work and normal activities within one week. Makeup is typically permitted after healing milestones are met, based on the type of procedure performed.
