Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure designed to restore a flatter, firmer abdominal contour by removing excess skin and tightening weakened abdominal muscles. Pregnancy, weight fluctuations, and natural aging can stretch the skin and underlying musculature in ways that cannot be corrected with diet or exercise alone.
This procedure is especially popular among women who have completed childbearing and wish to address changes caused by pregnancy, as well as individuals who have experienced significant weight loss. In some cases, abdominoplasty may be combined with other procedures as part of a customized Mommy Makeover to restore overall body balance and proportion.

Types Of Abdominoplasty
The type of abdominoplasty recommended depends on the degree of correction needed and individual anatomy.
- Standard (Full) Abdominoplasty: This procedure addresses the entire abdominal area, tightening abdominal muscles, correcting contour irregularities, and creating a smoother, more defined waistline. Liposuction may be incorporated to further refine results.
- Mini Abdominoplasty: A mini tummy tuck focuses on the lower abdomen below the belly button and is ideal for patients with mild skin laxity or contour concerns, including C-section scar revision. The belly button remains in place, and correction does not extend above the navel.
The Abdominoplasty Procedure
- Consultation: Your experience begins with a comprehensive consultation to discuss goals, evaluate anatomy, and determine the most appropriate surgical approach. This visit includes a detailed discussion of expectations, recovery, and results.
- Surgery: Abdominoplasty typically takes up to three hours, depending on the extent of correction. A carefully placed incision is made low on the abdomen, and the skin is lifted to allow tightening of the abdominal muscles. Excess skin is removed, and the remaining skin is re-draped smoothly for a flatter appearance. Liposuction may be used when appropriate to enhance contour.
- Outpatient Surgery: Abdominoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis in our fully accredited, in-office surgical suite, allowing patients to recover comfortably at home the same day.
- Post-Operative Care: Patients are typically seen the day after surgery, with additional follow-ups scheduled throughout recovery to monitor healing and results.
- Recovery & Activity: Most patients return to work in approximately two weeks. Heavy lifting should be avoided during early recovery, with vigorous physical activity typically resumed after four to six weeks, based on individual healing.
