Breast Reduction in Lexington, KY

Breast reduction surgery is designed to relieve physical discomfort and improve body proportion by removing excess breast tissue, fat, and skin. For many patients, overly large breasts contribute to chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain, difficulty with physical activity, and challenges with clothing fit. Breast reduction can significantly improve comfort, confidence, and quality of life. This procedure may be performed alone or combined with a breast lift to achieve optimal shape, balance, and elevation.

*While breast reduction surgery is covered by some insurance carriers, Wells Plastic Surgery & Skin Care does not participate with insurance plans for surgical procedures.

Why Undergo A Breast Reduction?

Patients choose breast reduction surgery for both physical and aesthetic reasons, including:

  • Pain Relief: Excess breast weight commonly contributes to upper back, neck, and shoulder pain. Many patients report noticeable relief shortly after surgery.
  • Improved Proportion: Reducing breast size can help restore balance between the chest and the rest of the body.
  • Enhanced Confidence: Patients often feel more comfortable in clothing and less self-conscious about their appearance.
  • Post-Pregnancy Changes: Breast reduction may be part of a Mommy Makeover following pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Benefits Of Breast Reduction Surgery

  • Reduction or elimination of chronic pain associated with large breasts
  • Decreased risk of long-term back and neck strain
  • Improved posture by relieving forward-pulling weight
  • Greater comfort with physical activity and exercise
  • Improved clothing fit and body confidence

*Individual results may vary.

About the Breast Reduction Procedure

  • Surgery: Breast reduction is performed as an outpatient procedure in our fully accredited, in-office surgical suite. Surgery typically lasts approximately three hours and is performed under IV sedation.
  • Technique: Incisions are carefully placed around the areola and extend vertically to the breast crease. Excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed, and the nipple-areola complex is repositioned to a natural, aesthetically balanced height. Areola size may also be reduced when appropriate.
  • Sensation: In many cases, the nipple remains connected to underlying nerves and blood supply, allowing sensation to be preserved; however, this cannot be guaranteed.
  • Results: In addition to reduced breast size, patients typically experience a significant improvement in breast shape, lift

Follow-Up & Recovery

  • Follow-Up Visits: Typically the day after surgery, one week later, and again at three weeks, three months, and six months
  • Return to Work: Most patients return to non-strenuous work within 7–10 days
  • Exercise: Strenuous activity and sports may usually resume after four weeks, depending on healing
